Cardinals vs Astros

Hot Cards chase wounded Astros staff in Daikin Park showdown.

St. Louis Cardinals

Cardinals (10-8) VS Astros (8-12)

Houston Astros
Moneyline Pick - St. Louis Cardinals (+130): B
Jordan Walker and the surging Cardinals come in on a three-game winning streak after last night’s 9-4 win, while the Astros have dropped two straight and 10 of their last 12, and that recent form plus Houston’s banged-up staff (no Hunter Brown, Cristian Javier or Ronel Blanco and still without Josh Hader) makes the underdog price on St. Louis appealing. Andre Pallante’s ground-ball profile and ability to limit homers so far contrasts with Lance McCullers Jr.’s higher walk rate and mid-5 ERA, and the Cardinals’ right-handed core of Walker, Nolan Gorman and Iván Herrera just showed they can punish this Astros bullpen in this matchup. Houston’s lineup is still dangerous with Yordan Alvarez and Jose Altuve both already taking Cards pitching deep in this series, so there’s real volatility here, but with St. Louis the hotter, healthier side and getting +130, I’m willing to side with the dog on the moneyline at a solid B-grade value. Over/Under Pick - Over 9 (-110): B-
Yordan Alvarez and this Astros offense remain extremely live at the plate, already among the league leaders in runs and slugging, and when you pair that with a Cardinals lineup that has dropped 20 runs over its last three games and just tagged Houston pitching for nine more last night, the total of 9 looks reachable. McCullers and Pallante have combined for nearly 6 ERA across about 30 innings, with McCullers striking hitters out but also issuing walks and Pallante allowing plenty of traffic, and both teams’ bullpens have been leaned on heavily, with Houston especially thin in high-leverage spots due to injuries to arms like Hader, Bennett Sousa and Cody Bolton. Daikin Park can play lively when the ball is in the air, and with Alvarez, Walker, Gorman and Altuve all in form and already trading homers in this series, I lean to runs continuing to come and will grade Over 9 at -110 as a B- given the decent scoring environment but the inherent variance in totals. Odds and availability are subject to change. This bet was made at 18/04/2026 10:07
Spread Pick - St. Louis Cardinals, +1.5 (-175): C+
St. Louis has been living in tight games all month and now rides a three-game win streak into Daikin Park, while Houston’s 8-13 start includes a lot of close losses driven by an overtaxed, injury-riddled pitching staff, which tilts me toward taking the extra 1.5 runs with the Cardinals. Even without Lars Nootbaar, the Cardinals’ everyday group is relatively intact, and with Walker’s 8-homer start, Gorman’s three-run blast and Herrera’s two-run shot already coming against this Astros staff in this series, the Cards’ lineup has shown it can keep pace with a star-heavy but slumping Houston offense. The Astros still have legitimate blowout upside when Alvarez and Christian Walker get rolling at home, but given how often both clubs have been within a run or two late, Cardinals +1.5 at -175 profiles more as a safety-first play than a high-value one, so I’ll endorse it but only with a C+ grade compared to the moneyline.
